Fight back against the lies!

Yesterday, 35th Ward residents and United Neighbors of the 35th Ward joined Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa to launch www.factsfor35.org and call on Carlos’ opponent to stop misinforming our community.

Our membership voted to endorse Carlos for reelection because he has been one of our city’s most outspoken progressive leaders. This approach has won him the support of thousands of 35th Ward residents, but it’s also won him the opposition of Rahm donors and big developers.

Carlos’ opponent is now taking their money and using it to fund a misinformation campaign. 35th Ward voters deserve the facts to make an informed decision on who they will support this election. That’s why, alongside Carlos’ campaign, we launched www.factsfor35.org.

For the past 4 years, Carlos has been sticking up for working families of the ward and across Chicago — now we need to stick up for him and the truth! With less than one week until election day, join us in fighting to keep our progressive champion in office. Sign up to volunteer today!

Below are just a few examples of how Carlos’ opponent is misinforming our community.

To see a full listing of all the facts, including sources, visit: www.factsfor35.org

The claim: “wants to raise our taxes,” and that Carlos “sponsored a tax that would raise property taxes in Chicago by $100 million.”

The facts: Carlos voted against Mayor Emanuel’s massive property tax increase and then fought for and won $20 million in property tax relief.

The claim: “fought to give Berman Nissan a $5.5 million tax break.”

The facts: This claim is grossly misleading. Mayor Rahm Emanuel sponsored a $5.5 million property tax abatement to help Berman Nissan build a new facility on an empty lot in the ward. While it is true that Carlos ultimately voted for it, the only thing he “fought” to do was ensure that the jobs created by this development were good union jobs with worker protections.

The claim: “stands up for corrupt politicians,” and “defended indicted Alderman Ed Burke’s strong-armed donations.”

The facts: Carlos was praised by the Chicago Tribune for being one of the few Aldermen to vote to empower the inspector general to investigate Ed Burke, and Carlos is one of 14 Aldermen to have never taken a contribution from Ed Burke.  Carlos never once defended Ed Burke’s strong-armed donations.
