TRUMP REPEALS #DACA. WHAT CAN YOU DO TO #RESIST?

Yesterday Trump moved to repeal the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Act, putting 800,000 young adults, who call this country their home, in danger of deportation.

At UN35, we believe all immigrants, regardless of country of origin, criminal background, religion, or documentation status, deserve the same human dignity. No human being is illegal. Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa continues to fight for our community through the Protect and Defend Plan to keep 35th Ward residents safe from unlawful and inhumane actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Congress has six months to pass a replacement before the protections granted from DACA are phased out. Without these protections in place, 800,000 people who live, work, and raise their families in the US, may be forced to return to a country they don’t remember.

We must stop this from happening. What can you do to protect and defend our comrades from unjust deportation?

  • Participate in organizations that defend members of our community from unrightful deportation. The Community Defense Committee (CDC) is a neighbor-led effort started by Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa in response to President Donald Trump’s deportation regime. Through door-to-door outreach, Know Your Rights Workshops, house parties, garden parties, and community events, we are working to ensure that every 35th Ward resident targeted by President Donald Trump’s administration is aware of their basic constitutional rights – rights that we all possess regardless of our immigration status, faith, or national origin. To learn more about the Community Defense Committee’s upcoming events, or to get involved, please call the 35th Ward Office at 773-887-3772 or e-mail Anthony Quezada at anthony@aldermancarlosrosa.org.
  • Provide a sanctuary in your space. Local leadership are encouraged to provide “safe space” in institutions such as public schools and invest in wrap-around services, social/emotional supports, and mental health services.

The deportation of undocumented individuals living in the United States will produce nothing but harm and pain in our communities. We will challenge efforts to criminalize the immigrant community through the use of racialized policing, misinformation, and/or other tactics carried out by the President and any member of Congress.

In Solidarity,
The United Neighbors of the 35th Ward
